You just never know where He might show up ….

October 24, 2012

“A woman, a Samaritan, came to draw water. Jesus said, “Would you give a drink of water?” (His disciples had gone to the village to buy food and lunch.” The Samaritan woman, taken aback asked’ “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.” John 4:7-9 The Message

How many times have you walked by Jesus during a day? No, of course, it’s not really Jesus but in truth you were this woman when he found you. You were going about your life and He asked you a question that caught you off guard. His grace and truth always do … at least at first. You can’t believe He has the time or the real interest to spend with you. Maybe you haven’t had five husbands .. or three wives .. or children of different mothers .. or two fathers .. or a drinking habit .. or a series of failures .. or you have so much and yet are so empty. Jews didn’t talk to Samaritans. And Jesus only reaches out to those who deserve His time. You would be wrong on all accounts. He’s got time for you in the heat of the day .. when you least expect him .. and sometimes when you least want Him. What He wants is the real you that no one else sees so clearly. What He offers is His Spirit to engage your whole life in the “pursuit of truth”. This same Jesus who sits down at a well and talks with a just-trying-to-live-today woman offers you the same water. And it is as fresh today as it was then. You can ignore him but you’ll stay thirsty. You can debate him but your thought defenses will run dry. You can try to provoke him but your fight will only leave you defeated. And Jesus…? He wants to make you into the man or woman who is simply and honestly yourself before God. You won’t have to hide anymore. And what He offers you today …. it only takes a moment …

“It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. God is sheer being itself — Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration.” John 4:23-24 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
