A way of life …

November 28, 2012

“Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.” Matt. 28:18-20 The Message

Jesus left you with an open invitation to join him in a way of life. He described it through relationships that “train” others .. that is when you open your life for others to see how you follow Jesus. That means they get an open window into your heart and see where you struggle .. how you pray .. and how you handle to the everyday pressures of living in a sin-dead world. What you are really doing is inviting others to see the immense mercy and incredible love that God has embraced you with in Christ. He’s made your once dead .. once self-directing .. and self-defeating life alive through Jesus. It wasn’t a life or situation where you figured out your mistakes and formulated a way around them or vowed to never repeat those mistakes. You are alive in the freedom and fullness of God’s love because of Jesus. And his supply of grace is immeasurable to your life today. What He offers you for today is not “just enough grace” but extravagant grace for every area of your life. And He invites you to show others how to walk in this way of life. It truly is a way of life that is found nowhere else but in Christ. How you show someone how to live this way of life will look different from someone else, but God will shape their lives just as He is shaping your life. The secret: learning to love the life that Jesus Christ is living in you. His way of life is the real life that fills you with joy and opens your eyes to loving others just like He is loving you. He’s not demanding or in a hurry. He’s not trying to meet a schedule or make a quota. He’s simply promised to be with you day after day after day. And today … it only takes a moment ..

“It’s a wonder God didn’t lose his temper with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, he embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on his own, with no help from us! Then he picked us up and set us down in highest heaven in company with Jesus, our Messiah.” Ephesians 2:4-6 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
