Starting over …

“Everything that we have — right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start — comes from God by way of Jesus Christ.” 1 Cor. 1:30 The Message

What if it really is that simple: God wants to give you a “clean slate and fresh start” through His Son? All through the Bible, God is continually calling his people to turn back to him when they have wandered away. Over and over again they blame Him for all of their troubles or they look to another power to help them out. And still God speaks into the darkest places of their lives when all hope seems lost: “Return to me”. God’s offer seems too simple. In fact, his simplest invitation arrives when you have no strength left: “Come back to Me”. He’s not looking at what you’ve done or how much you could do to make up for all the wrongs in your life. He’s looking at your heart and inviting you to let Him clear away all the mess you’ve made of your life on the inside. No one knows how hard it is to let God inside all of the really messed up and mismanaged areas of your life … except Jesus. God chose a prophet whose name means “Yahweh remembers” to remind you that He hasn’t overlooked one day of your life. He remembers every struggle .. every sin .. and every severed relationship in your life and invites you to find a fresh start through Christ. The Lord is never vague about the new life he is offering you. He doesn’t make a list of all the things you have to do before you get a clean slate and fresh start. And He knows you have a hard time believing that his arms are that wide open and welcoming when it comes to your life. There really is only one way he could get you to turn back. He had to come back for you. And the way forward…? It only takes a moment …

This is what the Lord Almighty says: ʻReturn to me,ʼ declares the Lord Almighty, ʻand I will return to you,ʼ …. Zechariah 1:3 NIV

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
