God’s rule … or your rule ..?

December 4, 2012

“Hear, O heavens! Listen, O earth! This is what the Lord says”The children I raised and cared for have turned against me. Even the animals — the donkey and the ox — know their owner and appreciate his care, but not my people Israel. No matter what I do for them, they still do not understand.” Isaiah 1:2-3 NLT

Our faith history is not hidden. We were born with a self-determination to live life our way and not God’s. He freely offered us the choice .. at least to our spiritual ancestors. They could trust him and obey his words and they would live a life of unimaginable blessing in every corner of their lives. If they chose to go their own way, they would face in-fighting and constant friction in every corner of their lives. And God freely offered them the choice. They chose themselves. You may think that you would have made a different choice. But they .. and us .. and you haven’t changed with all of our advancements. And God hasn’t changed either: He is still in the business of turning our hearts and lives back towards His rule and His blessing. Even when he’s tried to walk away he turns back with all the tenderness of a mother to her children. Just like a parent .. God hasn’t given up on you. Jesus faced the same challenges then and now. He came to restore God’s rule. And the first place where God wants to rule is your heart and mind. He’s after all those places inside of you that no one sees but God. He’s come for all those places where you are still trying to assert yourself and trust Him as a last resort. The world says that He’s come to take away your rights. In fact .. He’s come to free you from those rights that enslave you to yourself over and over. God has never stopped inviting you .. seeking you .. and providing a way back for you. Jesus knows only one way: All of Him in all of you. God’s rule or your rule: It only takes a moment …

“Jerusalem! Jerusalem! Murderer of prophets! Killer of the ones who brought you God’s news! How often I’ve ached to embrace your children, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you wouldn’t let me. And now you’re so desolate, nothing but a ghost town. What is there left to say? Only this: I’m out of here soon. The next time you see me you’ll say, ‘Oh, God has blessed him! He’s come, bringing God’s rule!” Matt. 23:37-39 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
