Wow ….!

January 15, 2013

“When he was still a long way off, his father saw him. His heart pounding, he ran out, embraced him, and kissed him. The son started his speech: “Father, I’ve sinned against God, I’ve sinned before you; I don’t deserve to be called your son ever again.” Luke 15:20-21

Maybe this was you … maybe a brother or sister .. maybe a son or daughter .. or maybe a good friend. It’s an old story that ALWAYS breathes fresh grace into your heart. God’s heart NEVER stops “pounding” when you find your way back to Him. For some it is years. For others it is the miles they have wandered. For others still it is what they have squandered and wasted. BUT GOD … He’s racing down the path to wrap you up in grace. His heart is beating so loud he can’t hear you stumbling over all the mistakes .. regrets .. and failures. “IF ONLY YOU WOULD LET ME HAVE A CORNER IN THE BASEMENT OR IN THE GARAGE … I’LL NEVER BE A PROBLEM AGAIN .. I PROMISE”. And then GOD does the WOW: He throws a homecoming party to celebrate your life. It’s not just any party .. it’s lavish, extravagant, and loud! No expense is spared to welcome you home. You can never measure what you’ve wasted against the Father’s unstoppable extravagance of grace. The wardrobe you’re wearing belonged to His Son. It’ll fit you perfectly and never go out of fashion! WOW!! Jesus had to love telling this story about His Father. He looked into sin-wearied .. sin-scarred .. and sin-tired lives and He threw open the doors of grace to welcome them and you back home. Those doors are His life .. thrown open for you. That heart pounding is His heart pounding for you. And the sound you hear…? That’s your heart pounding full of grace … WELCOME HOME SON .. WELCOME HOME DAUGHTER … WOW … It’s so good to have you home! And it only takes a moment …

“But the father wasn’t listening. He was calling to the servants, “Quick, bring a clean set of clothes and dress him. Put the family ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Then get a grain-fed heifer and roast it. We’re going to feast! We’re going to have a wonderful time! My son is here — given up for dead and now alive! Given up for lost and now found! And they began to have a wonderful dinner.” Luke 15:22-24

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
