Holding on … and letting go

January 16, 2013

“If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you party. I’ll give you long life, give you long drink of salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16 The Message

God’s been singing saving songs and rescuing tunes for a long time. He’s used a runt-sized king and assorted God-trusters to sing songs that find you no matter where you are. His longing is for you to get to know him and learn to live out of the trust you have in Him. Faith gets formed when you “call out” to Him. It takes shape through hard places and moments when your strength is gone and the answers have run dry. No-Good Gods promise good times. Grace-and-Truth God will find you and be with you in bad times. He is a Rescuer .. over and over and over again. There isn’t a better place to be in your life than at that place and moment where you are literally trusting the Lord totally. And the total of what you have is exactly all that He wants. He wants your total. He isn’t asking you to trust Him with someone else’s total. He only wants your total. The Life he’s raised from the dead is totally yours .. for the asking .. for the accepting .. for the trusting. There isn’t anything simple about trusting Jesus. It’s just that He will meet you in the most complex situations and uncertainties with total grace and saving truth. And maybe, just maybe you’ll sing a song of salvation and rescue tunes just like this runt-sized king sang a few thousand years ago. Jesus will stick with you … and he only takes a moment …

“It was so bad we didn’t think we were going to make it. We felt like we’d been sent to death row, that it was all over for us. As it turned out, it was the best thing that could have happened. Instead of trusting in our own strength or wits to get out of it, we were forced to trust God totally — not a bad idea since he’s the God who raises the dead! And he did it, rescued us from certain doom. And he’ll do it again, rescuing us as many times as we need rescuing.” 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
