True freedom is never forced …

January 18, 2013

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matt. 11:28-30 The Message

Freedom is not independence. Independence is what we think we want .. earn .. or have a right to do whatever we want to do. In the end you find yourself worn out .. all alone on the inside .. and disillusioned with god-like images that rob you of life. Jesus could have forced his freedom on your life. But he knew that you would never be free without his completely free .. hands off invitation to come and follow Him. And the more you follow, the more his life begins to move inside completely free and hands off. And the more you take your hands off, the more you discover what real rest really feels like on the inside. It takes a faith-filled freedom to walk with Jesus .. even more to work with Him .. and grace-opened eyes to watch how He lives life. You begin to see everyone and everything around you through His eyes. And they begin to see something different in your life that wasn’t there before. The freedom that Jesus offers you is an indefatigable promise. He promises that you will recover your life. He promises you a rest you cannot buy or find with a few days away. He promises you a life where you’ll “learn to live freely and lightly”. How is that possible in this ever-increasing-heavy-weighted world? The freedom that Jesus offers you changes everything about you into love. No, it won’t change all at once. There will be parts of you that will try to hold on to broken promises. But once you start keeping company with Jesus … you won’t want to go back. His words invite you to come .. to recover .. to refresh .. to renew .. to learn a new rhythm called grace. It only takes a moment …

“Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand! Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. … For in Christ, neither our most conscientious religion nor disregard of religion amounts to anything. What matters is something far more interior: faith expressed in love.” Galatians 5:1, 6 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
