Stuck no more…

February 13, 2013

“When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive– right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross. He stripped all the spiritual tyrants in the universe of their sham authority at the Cross and marched them naked through the streets.” Colossians 2:13-15 The Message

The most amazing thing happened at the Cross: All of your sins were forgiven. “He breaks the power of cancelled sin, He sets the prisoner free. His blood can make the foulest clean, His blood availed for me” as a thousand tongues echo until Christ returns. The life you once lived was buried. Everything that went into that old life has been nailed to the Cross. You can’t manage your new life with the old patterns. They didn’t just get cleaned up. They were canceled so that you can live with a cleansed conscience .. a new heart .. and a renewed mind. Your life is a clean slate because of Jesus. Some men and women would rather try to manage guilt than live out of God’s generosity. The Cross is God’s extravagant love for you and his final word about sin. There is nothing comparable in any other faith about the power and reach of the Cross of Jesus Christ. To all who believe .. trust .. and accept Christ’s sin-defeating death is the gift of a new life .. new hope .. and new identity. You’re no longer stuck in those old practices. If you find yourself drifting back, you simply take a moment to remind yourself that you are no longer under sin’s “sham authority”. God has made you alive in Christ. We always find ourselves in trouble when we try to help God out by inserting our own rules or regulations into managing sin. God didn’t manage it. He crucified it once and for all. Whatever is in front of your life today, you are alive in Christ. The way forward is in Christ .. even when it looks like the only way is to revert back to your old ways with good intentions. The way forward…? …. Only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
