Blood transfusions …

February 21, 2013

“If that animal blood and the other rituals of purification were effective in cleaning up certain matters of our religion and behavior, think how much more the blood of Christ cleans up our whole lives, inside and out. Through the Spirit, Christ offered himself as an unblemished sacrifice, freeing us from all those dead-end efforts to make ourselves respectable, so that we can live all out for God.” Hebrews 9:14-15 The Message

A follower of Jesus Christ carries an unusual bloodline: a new life through Christ’s perfect sacrifice on the cross. Two thousand years later his blood still makes lives new and whole. Why would anyone turn that offer down? A new life? A life made whole? A forgiven life? A cleansed conscience? A life filled with peace? A life loved? Maybe you know what it was like to try and make your life acceptable and respectable to everyone around you … or to those you craved their acceptance. You probably know someone who lives driven day after day. Somewhere inside their heart is “that space” that they believe if they can just fill .. complete .. achieve .. then maybe, just maybe life will work out for good. Maybe you were that person or still struggle against that invisible force to take control. Against all of that is this One named Jesus who offers something so incredible: a new life based on the sacrifice of his life for everything that is “you”. It’s not just the bad parts .. the imperfect parts .. the covered flaws. It is also all the parts that seem good .. natural .. and even the layers of good intentions. Everything has to go. Jesus offers you something that you could never buy: a cleansed conscience .. freedom from dead-end efforts .. and a life of service that points directly to God. Christ offers all of this and more as you live out your life in a broken world. In fact, your life becomes a living witness .. alive in grace .. Holy Spirit energized .. “all out for God”. You don’t turn into a religious busybody. You just begin living out a life of love .. loved by Jesus .. and allowing His love to pour through you into others. You’re no longer driven to worry about what everyone else is thinking about you. You’re learning to love the life that Christ is living in you. … and it only takes a moment …

“how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” Hebrews 9:14 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
