1 Peter 2:9-10 “But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you — from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.” The Message
Repentance is an old word that signifies change. It’s a changed mind .. a mew heart .. and a fresh start. It means God is renovating you from inside out. It is a gift from God that helps you let go of habits, patterns, sin, and dark directions. You discover this word at some of your lowest points in your life. That’s when we are most inclined to seek God’s help; and help He does! You find He’s already involved in the real change going on in your life. In the OT, repentance was more of a national direction and change of purpose. In the NT, Jesus invites us into a personal life-change of repentance. It is a great gift, because without it, you and I would have to manage all of those objects hidden away in our life’s closets that we desperately want to throw out and forget. God wants far more for us than we want for ourselves. David found out when he asked God to “Create a clean heart” in him. Jesus invites to come to Him with whatever you are carrying. What you discover is that a holy life emerges out of some of the former dark places that are now filled with light. You can’t renovate your own life. But you can trust Jesus to make a “night-and-day difference” in you. You can trust Him to keep His Word in you.
It only takes a moment … sometimes a rather long moment to realize and receive one of God’s great gifts for your life.
