Uncontaminated …

March 12, 2013

“The whole point of what we’re urging is simply love — love uncontaminated by self-interest and counterfeit faith, a life open to God.” 1Timothy 1:5 The Message

God’s love for you is extravagant. He spends an immeasurable amount of time loving you to the end of yourself. God’s uncomplicated aim is to grow your life in love. The word itself is diluted over and over in a counterfeit world of un-love. Jesus never violates anyone with love. He knows just how “broken and dislocated” your life becomes when love is falsely manufactured or selfishly pursued. He knows the internal battles and struggles you face between pursuing a life “open to God” and a life formed on your terms. Self-interest can disguise itself with good intentions. A counterfeit faith does not point to a cross. It points to an unconditional acceptance that doesn’t lead to repentance .. confession .. forgiveness .. and trust. The kind of love God intends for you is a love defined by grace. The kind of grace you know is a gift you could never afford. Jesus said that the world will know you are his follower by the way you love others. It isn’t complicated. You only make it so when you attach conditions. It takes the indwelling love of Christ for us to love unselfishly. It takes His generous love to forgive. It takes His life-changing love to set you free to live a life “open to God”. Otherwise, you’ll live fearfully .. guarded .. and self-centered. In Christ … it only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken

  1. Thanks for sharing. “Self-interest can disguise itself with good intentions. A counterfeit faith does not point to a cross. It points to an unconditional acceptance that doesn’t lead to repentance .. confession .. forgiveness .. and trust.” — Excellent and timely thoughts. Amen.
