God doesn’t pay rent …

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and my Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our abode with him.” John 14:23 New American Standard

“If anyone loves Me” …Jesus never pressures you or corners you into loving Him. He describes what that love looks like: “keep(ing) My word”. That word of Jesus is first a word about loving God with ALL of your heart. Your whole life is in it. And you know what it is like when your whole heart is in anything that consumes you. You see the whole world through that lens. Jesus simplifies His word by loving God and loving your neighbor as yourself. When you are loving your neighbor, you are seeing his or her world through Christ’s life. He doesn’t force you. You find yourself putting another’s interests before your own. But Jesus carries it another step: God the Father will love you as well. You will begin to experience and know the “room by room” love of God. Jesus even says that They will move in. Keeping the word of Jesus is not about becoming more religious .. it’s about becoming more real in how you live. You aren’t driven the way you used to be. You don’t demand of others. Loving Jesus means that your whole life will begin to change from the inside out. It’s usually not you who notices the change, but those closest to your life. For some that means letting a few others into your life that you’ve guarded out of the fear of being known or not being accepted. Jesus changes all of that because the Father and the Son have moved in. You make that possible by loving Jesus. It’s why you can’t love this world and Jesus at the same time. They are both competing for your heart, but only One moves in with freedom .. grace .. and truth. The world makes you feel like you are going to lose out. Jesus invites you to lose “what you can’t keep, to gain what you can’t lose”. If you will love Him today …. it only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
