The Burden of Being Perfect … ain’t such a burden after all

March 18, 2013

“It was a perfect sacrifice by a perfect person to perfect some very imperfect people. … This new plan I’m making with Israel isn’t going to be written on paper, isn’t going to be chiseled in stone; This time “I’m writing out the plan in them, carving it on the lining of their hearts.” He concludes, I’ll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins.” Hebrews 10:14, 16-17 The Message

We really don’t “do” very well with this: being made perfect by Christ’s perfect sacrifice on our behalf. Just thinking about being perfect brings up all our flaws .. flat spots .. and slowly decaying failures. Some failures decay slower than others. Usually, we hold on to them as a reminder or our own shortcomings and think that holding on makes “me” sensitive to other’s struggles. Nothing to could be more further from the truth. God said He would “forever” wipe away your sins. He won’t even remember them anymore. Jesus has taken care of all that in you. The more you focus on Christ, the more human and caring you will become to others. You won’t look at someone and see all their failures. You’ll see how great the love of God “is” for that man or woman. You’ll see what his mercy can do. You’ll see a life that can be freed from carrying all the burdens of their sin. You confess … He forgives. You confess … Jesus goes to work in your life cleansing you from all the broken–dislocated–and life-wearying weight of sin. You weren’t designed to carry around sin. There’s nothing healthy about carrying around something or anything that Jesus has wiped clean. Next to your name is a clean slate. Shake your head all that you want, but you’ve been made perfect in Christ. Yes .. you may still see imperfections. But God doesn’t see what you see. He sees you coming on your own .. owning your past, admitting your mistakes, and confessing your sin. It has never been popular. It’s just always been the most incredible gift from God. You’ve been given a clean slate .. a fresh start .. and a life freed from the miserable burden of carrying around all those things that eat up your life on the inside. God has carved it on the lining of your heart. Maybe .. He is serious about you learning to love the life that Christ wants to live in you today. He must be serious … He’s made you perfect! And it takes Jesus to live it … and it only takes a moment …

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
