Believing …

“Who believes what we’ve heard and seen? Who would have thought God’s saving power would look like this?” Isaiah 53:1 The Message

To really believe in this Jesus is a gift. It is easily taken for granted .. dismissed as lacking intellectual credibility .. ignored as too simplistic .. or viewed as being narrow and closed-minded. But to you, if you believe, you realize as you walk this journey that believing is “something” that has taken hold of you. You know in your heart and mind that the whole life of believing is actually very humbling. You are saying that you base your life and worldview on the Life of a man who was raised up on a cross for your sins. You are saying (sometimes without words) that no matter how good life is .. how much you have .. or how little you may possess .. that believing in this man Jesus is what makes your life worth living. It doesn’t matter if you were (or are) a skeptic .. a cautious investigator .. or a go-with-your-gut type of person. You may have suffered great abuse of some kind. You may have inflicted great abuse and suffering. You may have lived safely within the boundaries. You may have stepped over every boundary around your life. You can be a fearful sort or risk taker. You can be successful or a failure. You can never get a break or be that person that just seems to be at the right place at the right time. You can be positive, upbeat, and optimistic. You can see something wrong in everything, negative, and pessimistic in general. You may have been deeply loved and valued. You may have experienced very little love and only carry scars of feeling worthless and unwanted. BUT … when you saw Jesus you were drawn to his life. It doesn’t matter when you really saw Him for the first time. What matters is that you believed that this One raised upon a Xross saved your life. You can’t claim it as being your own power or ability. You can try but it just won’t hold up for long. It is a gift of grace. Who would have thought that God’s saving power would look like you? Jesus covered your life with these words: “It is finished.” You pay Him back (if that were possible) by saying: “Thank you Lord”. It only takes a moment … and maybe longer …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
