What is It …?

April 8, 2013

“The Israelites named it manna (What is it?). It looked like coriander seed, whitish. And it tasted like a cracker with honey. Moses said, “This is God’s command: “Keep a two-quart jar of it, an omer, for future generations so they can see the bread that I fed you in the wilderness after I brought you out of Egypt.” The Israelites ate the manna for forty years until they arrived at the land where they would settle down. They ate manna until they reached the border into Canaan.” Exodus 16:31-35 The Message

Your life is a lot like manna in that as people experience God’s grace in you, they may (or should) ask: “What is it about you”? They look at your life in Christ and something should begin to appear different. Loving sacrificially requires more from you than just a good effort. The kind of love God is talking about grows out of the sacrificial love you are experiencing in Christ. This is so often where you become snagged when you aren’t living in .. walking in .. and living out of his sacrificial love for you. Can you imagine living 40 years on the same food everyday? It had to be nutritious and sustain the Israelites as they wandered around the desert to a home they had never seen or even worked for. 40 years? It only lasted a day except one day a week when they gathered double for Sabbath. And God told them to save two quarts as a reminder for future generations. What is it about your life that others will ask? Do they see you living deeply in Christ? You already know that you cannot sustain the christian life on your own strength. Like manna, it will turn sour without the abiding love and life of God’s Spirit. They were sustained 40 years by early-morning-ground-cover. You, on the other hand, have something more valuable than manna to sustain you: His Spirit. One of the Spirit’s main roles is to equip you to live out God’s original command to love God and to love others with that same love you have for God. God not only commands it .. He provides you the “food” of His Spirit to sustain .. fill you .. lead you .. and live in such a way that others ask: “What is it?” Are you living this way? With Jesus … it only takes a moment …

“He told us to love each other, in line with the original command. As we keep his commands, we live deeply and surely in him, and he in us. And this is how we experience his deep and abiding presence in us: by the Spirit he gave us.” 1 John 3:23-24 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
