Then and now …

April 22, 2013

“We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, our Jesus, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians. The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope.” Colossians 1:4-5 The Message

The message of the Gospel is powerful .. simple .. and continuously renewing us in hope. Your faith: what you believe .. who you believe in .. and what you are living for is in Christ, who rescued your life from the dead-end alleys and dungeons of sin. It took a power greater than yourself to lift you up and break the strongholds that used to strangle you. That’s the power of the Gospel: rescued and loved unfailingly by Jesus. It was simple: Christ exchanged his life for your life. There are no secret arrangements. What God has promised is completely out in the open for you and everyone else to see. In this world, it doesn’t take much to steal our hope or darken our hearts from the future we have now in heaven through Christ. By ourselves, we lose sight of this hope from time to time. But God is continuously pouring out his love to us through each other. (It is amazing how many Christians walk alone in this life. That isn’t God’s heart or plan.) You’ve been set up in God’s kingdom, a kingdom of hope .. restoration .. and a love that never runs out or gives up. You can’t walk this life alone. You need the love they share in Christ and they need the love you have in Christ. The Colossians were being led to believe that Christ was only one of many facets of faith. They were known for the love they shared in the Spirit, and a love that came from Jesus that was defined by what he had done and the future they possessed. This is your life as well. The Gospel of Jesus Christ changes lives today and you are part of His unfolding plan. The day s before you … it only takes a moment…

God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.” Colossians 1:12-13 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
