Jesus … are you serious about this?

May 3, 2013

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.” Colossians 3:12-14 The Message

Do you live your life believing and acting on the truth that “you are chosen by God”. What Jesus is saying .. and Paul is teaching, is that your life is lived out of a completely different identity than the world offers. The world says that everyone is chosen. The Cross says differently. There is no urgency in the world’s chosen-ness. In Christ, you grow into an identity and way of life that means that Jesus is alive in you. Really. Without Christ, you will begin to pick and choose which wardrobe to wear based on your feelings and the freedom of your own will. In Christ, you begin to live a life where Christ’s life becomes intimately entwined with your will and thoughts and heart. You begin to see the difference between life on your terms and life in Christ. And on top of it all you are called to forgive .. even quickly. You aren’t doing it out of obligation, but out of love. That love is born out of how completely Christ’s forgiveness has worked its way through your life. You will easily wear out when your life lacks love. Your marriage suffers .. your friendships suffer and everyone around you suffers when your life lacks love. That love is only found in Christ. He was and is all of those things: compassionate .. kind .. humble .. quiet in strength .. choosing second to make you first .. and completely forgave you before you even understood or believed what He had done. That’s the kind of life Christ wants to live in you. (Yes .. there are days and moments when your love runs dry and you wonder if God will fill you again.) How would He not? It is who He is. If you are chosen .. you’ll live this way. It never makes you superior .. overbearing .. or arrogant. In fact, being chosen usually means that you are acutely aware of just how “un-chosen” you feel apart from Christ. His life makes ALL the difference. How will you live this day …? It only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
