“Pray diligently. Stay alert, with your eyes wide open in gratitude. Don’t forget to pray for us, that God will open doors for telling the mystery of Christ, even while I’m locked up in this jail. Pray that every time I open my mouth I’ll be able to make Christ plain as day to them.” Colossians 4:2-4 The Message
Prayer is one of the most intimate places in your life. It’s intimate because God is the only one who really sees all your thoughts and the “things” you’ve stored in that place. He knows everything you are carrying in your heart .. past and present. When Jesus moves in he begins renovating your life in love, slowly and patiently teaching you this most intimate relationship with your Father in prayer. Everything in your life is part of praying. Jesus prayed so differently that his disciples asked him to teach them to pray like they saw in him. He revolutionized their lives and your life by beginning with these words: “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name …” . He didn’t construct a formula or ritual but gave us a relationship where everything and everyone in and around your life becomes part of your conversation with the Father. Praying is your part. Jesus already prayed that your life would evidence His life “plain as day”. When Christ moves in he takes all the pieces inside of you and begins to form your prayer. Your prayer..? Yep. His Spirit begins to grace the insides of your life and gratitude begins to form where the walls were bare. When Christ moves in He opens your eyes to see the world you live in with His heart .. His will .. and His grace. You can pray from any place. “Lord, I pray for ……” . It might be a person .. a situation .. an immediate need .. an emergency .. for help .. deliverance .. protection .. for healing .. forgiveness .. and that Christ would be lifted up in all things. Sometimes it is surprising what happens when you just begin with “Lord I pray for …….”. My prayer for you this day is that you will make “Christ plain as day” in the world you live in. “Lord, I pray for …….” ….. it only takes a moment.
Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” Philippians 4:6-7 The Message
