Making room …

Making room…

May 28, 2013

“Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why you’re living the way you are, and always with the utmost courtesy. … That’s what Christ did definitively: suffered because of others’ sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones. He went through it all — was put to death and then made alive — to bring us to God.” 1 Peter 3:15/18 The Message

It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day moments only to discover you are running on empty. It’s easy to deceive yourself into thinking that your public life is the same as your personal life. They are vastly different. Your personal life is “who you really are on the inside where no one sees but God”. You can’t put on a face or simply substitute self-effort in front of Jesus. He knows exactly where that leads: weary .. heavy laden .. worn out .. tired .. and burnt out. Peter learned to “set apart” his heart to Christ after repeated failures and self-efforts to make life happen. (How much effort did it take to deny knowing Jesus after following him for three years?) Your life is no different. It takes time .. intentional time .. deliberate time .. and real personal time to cultivate your heart for Christ. It stills seems to be the training ground that God uses every day.  There are so many subtle forces that will try to grab your hearts attention. If you give in enough times, pretty soon you find yourself “trying” to live a christian life rather than loving the LIFE that Jesus is living in you. Jesus won’t fight you over your choices or abandon you when you run aground. He’s already fought the one battle that really matters for your heart. The battle you will face today will be whether you will willingly serve others for Christ. He’s not looking for the grumbling servant, but the man or woman whose heart is saturated in the love of Christ. If you’re going to “be in on it” .. you’ll need to make room. It only takes a moment …

“I’ve become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn’t just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it!” 1 Corinthians 9:23 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
