Rescued? … because you needed it

June 11, 2013

“So I greet you with the great words: grace and peace! We know the meaning of those words because Jesus Christ rescued us from this evil world we’re in by offering himself as a sacrifice for our sins. God’s plan is that we all experience that rescue. Glory to God forever! Oh, yes!” Galatians 1:3-5 The Message

There is nothing vague or “impersonal” about the life you have been given in Christ. We rarely think about our lives as being “rescued” because generally, we don’t think of ourselves as needing rescuing or living in a way that we can’t find our way out of. (But if you’ve ever been rescued, you know what a life-altering gift this really is.) When you place Jesus Christ in the center of your life or even at the outer perimeters, you begin to see ever slowly how “gripped” you are by this world. People become categories. Life is managed and measured as to being successful or not. The Apostle Paul doesn’t waste a second in declaring that Christ has “rescued” you out of this evil world by the will of God. God’s will for you today is for you to know the freedom of your rescued life in Christ .. to live free .. and to walk free through His Spirit abiding in you. It has never been popular in this “world” to live your life for Christ. Because if Jesus has done this very thing in you … then your life is now gospel-purposed in everything. You can’t separate that from anything you do or the relationships around your life. But you don’t force this Jesus on anyone. God found you and pursued you a long time. You may have even grown up around church-things and Christ-things, but still this Free-Life-in-Christ had to become real in you. You don’t make that happen by keeping religious rules. Believing in Jesus is life-changing and it takes some time for the reality of Christ’s life to take over your life with freedom. Yours is a gospel-sized life .. capable of sharing grace and peace anywhere throughout the day .. rescued so that you can tell others. You “tell” by first remembering and giving it away wherever Jesus is leading your steps. How much did God love the world? Enough to find you. Enough to send you. Enough to make you whole. Are you prepared today…? … it only takes a moment …

“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son,. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.” John 3:16 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
