What about your friends today …?

June 18, 2013

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.” John 15:12-14 New American Standard

You’ve been called to do the impossible: to love another life .. a friend .. with the same love that Jesus loved you. At least it looks impossible on the surface. In actuality, Jesus is describing the kind of love you will have toward friends as you live out of His love in you. There isn’t a fast paced life attached to loving like Jesus. Just think for a moment of how patient He is with you. He knows the deepest longings of your heart. He knows all the wounded and scarred places in you. And yet, his love for you is absolutely complete .. nothing held back .. everything of who He is made available to you. He could have made a list of rules about love , but instead he calls you to love just like he loved you. It is so profound that it is more often overlooked or dismissed as being too simple. Instead it is life-changing for the one who loves and the one who is loved. In each case, it is Jesus who is loving out of one person and into another. You have to be intimately connected to Jesus to love like this. He described it as abiding in him. It is the relationship that affects all relationships. This command is over 2000 years old and still radiates with all the promise and life that glorifies God. Sin wrecks lives. Christ reconciles lives. And you’ve been called to love like He loves you. Today … it only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
