He really means it …

August 20, 2013

“Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And he bowed His head and gave up His spirit.” John 19:30 New American Standard

He knew. He knew what was happening at the last moment of His life. He knew that his life was completely offered for lives who had no idea who he was .. who he would become .. and who he is today. It begins that way for every man and every woman who looks at Jesus. They (just like you did..) look at Jesus and wonder if it is really possible that this man could really change their lives. How can one man change that much about your life? When it comes to your life, Jesus cried out the words: “It is finished” and he died for you. He did it because God is that rich in mercy. He did it because He loved you and there was no other way to reach your life than by his death. There was nothing nice and sweet about Jesus dying for you. His last taste this world was sour. But everything that God has done was so that you would know how far God was willing to go for you to find life in Christ. He hasn’t just covered a few bad things .. a few regrettable mistakes .. or a few errors of judgment. He’s covered the worst things of your life. He’s covered your need to control other people .. control the circumstances .. and think that you are actually in control. That really is a myth about being in control. The greatest freedom in this life is discovering .. accepting .. and trusting that Christ is in control. He should know because He died the one death that destroyed your need to control your own life. What the Lord offers you is called grace .. receiving something you know in your heart of hearts that you don’t deserve. It will change you from the inside out. It will begin to change the way you look at others. Maybe not at first … but it will change you. You’ll begin to look at another life as becoming alive in Christ. You begin to see with grace .. You begin to let go of controlling .. You begin to in the care of God’s great love of you through Jesus. It only takes a moment …

“But God being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ…” Ephesians 2:4-5 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
