Becoming more…

September 3, 2013

“God, the Master. The Holy One of Israel, has this solemn counsel: “Your salvation requires you to turn back to me and stop your silly efforts to save yourselves. Your strength will come from settling down in complete dependence on me — The very thing you’ve been unwilling to do.” Isaiah 30:15 The Message

Repentance is one of those “words” that causes you to clench your teeth .. that makes you feel ashamed and angry at the same time .. that makes things hidden inside of you come into the light. God means it as a gift .. a way back for you .. an invitation to return and rest in His grace .. and to walk out into a way of life that doesn’t begin and end with you. This is where God becomes GOD .. the only One who can carry your shame .. bear your burdens .. and break the strongholds in your life. You might have grown up in a “repenting world” where it was expected or demanded every week or you would face wrath. You might have grown up around repentance and it was only used for the worst offenses and only required you to feel sorry .. and never do that again! But repentance is one of the most powerful gifts the Lord has ever given you. It frees you from yourself. You can stop trying to save yourself or saving the world. The “very thing you’ve been unwilling to do” is the very thing Jesus was all-willing to do for you. He knows the exhaustion ends of your strength. He knows exactly how much you can do on your own. And He knows exactly how much His life will become in you. Repentance is a lot more than just not doing wrong. It is about becoming the man or woman who “abides” and lives a life fully alive in Christ. Repentance … is God’s gift of inviting you back into grace .. into compassion .. into mercy .. into the life of Jesus. It’s not about you making your life less … it’s about His life becoming more. It only takes a moment …

“I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
