Where do you find a God like this…?

September 6, 2013

“God is love … but not just any love. He’s not your version of love, defined by commercials .. feelings and experiences .. or the kind of love that just lets you live anyway you want. A Montana pastor hidden away in a romanticized state wrote once: “It is an even more astonishing story: a prophet commanded to marry a common whore, and have children with her. It is an even more astonishing message: God loves us in just this way — goes after us at our worst, keeps after us until he gets us, and makes lovers of men and women who know nothing of real love.” This is the God who pursues you and keeps shaping your life into a life of love that intersects with the worse parts of you .. keeps after you when you try to run of or ignore Him .. and patiently and even painfully grows you up in real love. You don’t just follow this kind of God nonchalantly. The places inside of you that you may consider nothing .. maybe rejected .. masked insecurities of exhausting self-confidence .. and those unique actions known really within yourself that you fall back on to feel worthy .. are exactly where this God is found walking through all those places in your life. And what does He do? He promises “I will betroth you to me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in lovingkindness and in compassion, And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the Lord.” ( Hosea 2:19) There is no other God who has ever or will ever .. or is even now loving you like this. He’s this kind of God. He washes feet .. He talks to diseased and dejected men and women .. He shows up at marriage celebrations .. He meets with official high and low. He heals people who’ve lived in the shadows for years. He restores damaged hearts. He forgives where no one else would ever forgive. And on top of it all … you are His ambassador today. Whatever is in your life today … it only takes a moment …

Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
