Just 3 things …

September 17, 2013

“But He’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don’t take yourself too seriously– take God seriously.” Micah 6:8 The Message

In the “Old Time” , God used prophets to make His life present in the midst of their sins .. disbelief .. and disobedience. They didn’t hold back: anything goes sex with anyone .. anywhere .. anytime .. business fraud .. cheating friends and strangers .. trusting in wealth and weapons .. stealing from God .. stealing from each other .. wasting the land that God gave them to flourish in faith and fruitfulness. Micah boiled it down into three truth-phrases: Do justice .. Love mercy .. Walk humbly with God. God never gave up on them .. or on you. The “Old Time” became the “New Time” when God became present in Jesus. They couldn’t (any you can’t) boil this faith down to three simple phrases. Why? Because God knows that you needed a clean slate and fresh start through Christ. Without Christ, you’ll get tired of justice or speaking up for those without a voice. Without Christ, mercy becomes an interruption and irritation. Without Christ, you’ll begin to think that you’ve earned God’s goodness or His blessing you because you deserved it. God changed the “Old Time” into the “New Time” because you needed to know that you couldn’t do it on your own. When everything you have belongs to Jesus, you’ll find yourself walking with your eyes wide open .. looking to give away what Christ has given you .. loving as if “your life depended on it” .. and giving thanks for everything .. everyday .. in Christ. It only takes a moment …

“Everything that we have — right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start — comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.” 1 Corinthians 1:30 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
