Unstoppable joy …

October 1, 2013

1 John 1:1-3 “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. “

You’ve been given the richest of gifts in Christ: relationships with other .. a living fellowship .. and a bond of friendship that openly points to One called the Word of Life. True fellowship begins and ends in Jesus’ Life in his followers. You have the strongest ground to stand on for friendship and living life together through Christ. There isn’t any equal or rival of relationships outside of Christ. No matter what valleys or mountains, moments or seasons, the life of Jesus living in you unifies your relationship with your spouse .. other believers .. and the body of Christ. God’s indefatigable pursuit of his relationship with you and through you is found all through the scriptures. It is a relationship grounded in the Life of One who was seen .. heard .. touched and declares that in Him you have eternal life. His Spirit is even at this moment working in you .. completing in you .. and making whole in you this relationship in Christ. It doesn’t take anyone very long to be mystified by how this Jesus can love you with all your flaws and invest in you with all the richness of His life. Jesus even says you are to love “just as I have loved you .. you also are to love one another.” It is a living relationship grounded in the same relationship that Jesus, the Son, enjoyed with his Father. And somehow when you live out this life in Christ with others, joy is made complete in you. There is nothing pretentious about it. It is a joy founded upon the life you have in Christ. Too often we find our joy robbed by others or things that have no roots in Christ. When we receive and accept the truth of God’s complete rescue, true joy is planted. As we share our lives, this joy grows. And .. it only takes a moment …

1 John 1:4 “And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.”

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
