The Power of Promise …

October 23, 2013

“I am sending what my Father promised to you, so stay in the city until he arrives, until you’re equipped with power on high.” Luke 24:49 The Message

Have you ever made a promise … and broken it? Have you ever kept a promise … even when it meant that it was really going to cost you? God made a promise: “If anyone loves Me” promise to never give up on you .. never quit on you .. never leave you .. and never let you go. He’s never broken a promise … even when it cost Him everything. Your life is held together by a very simple promise. Jesus said that He and the Father would move in to your life and make “Our home”. He told his first followers .. the “11 remaining” .. to wait until their lives were “equipped” with the kingdom promise. They were to spend their lives talking about .. sharing about .. and preaching about repentance and forgiveness of sins. That promise hasn’t changed right up to this day in your life. You are to be a living witness of the promise of a changed-life and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. And the promise…? Jesus and His Father will move in and everything in you begins to change. Sometimes it feels like God isn’t working fast enough. You pray and you pray and you pray … but the real prayer begins when you invite Jesus to move in. He doesn’t even say that you have to invite Him in. He describes the promise as what happens when you love Him and keep his word. Somehow, God fashions an invitation out of your heart by how you are loving Him. It’s not a love found in all of creation. It is the love God creates in you with his life. Jesus moves in .. nail-scarred and all .. and shapes your life with his life. You don’t find yourself trying to hide any longer. You don’t find yourself trying to make order out of all the broken pieces. You find yourself waiting and willing for the Father and the Son to turn your life into a promise. A promise is a promise. God’s never broken his promise. It only takes a moment ..

“If anyone loves Me, he will keep my word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23 New King James

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
