Moving out of the desert …

October 28, 2013

“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For the waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.” Isaiah 35:5-6 New King James

There is this special .. unique .. cherished relationship between God and you. He chose a group of people just like you. He chose them because He set His love upon them. They weren’t perfect by any stretch. They were stubborn .. self-determined .. and time and time again ended up enslaved to others and things around their lives. God promised them a life beyond their imaginations. All they had to do was intentionally set the direction of their hearts to love Him .. to choose Him first .. to trust Him .. and serve Him. God hasn’t hidden anything about His life. He said He was holy. He said the people he was choosing would be holy in his sight. You are the same: chosen .. holy .. and cherished because of Jesus. His life connects you to thousands of years of God’s personal treasure called Israel. Their story could easily be yours. They turned to other nations to rescue them. They adopted other nations way-of-life to blend in. They tried making the God who delivered them out of slavery the same as all the other nature God’s and sex-gods that their neighbors used to make sense of the world. It never worked. It never will work. It isn’t working today. As a result, we are the same blind .. deaf .. lame .. sense-less people who God has promised to rescue. He’s promised streams in the desert. Those very streams become a river in your life of God’s life-giving Spirit found only in Christ ad through Christ. It’s not found anywhere else but in Jesus. You’ll probably find yourself around hurting .. wounded .. deserted people throughout the day. They trusted other gods who abandon them all the time. But God .. your God .. and has promised that you can “depend upon” him today. Depended on God isn’t the same as assuming. Depending on Jesus is about trust. Who are you going to trust today? The One who delivers you out of slavery .. or the gods who make life about pretending. Jesus calls you the beloved. You’ll find your life in Him. It only takes a moment …

“Do this because you are a people set apart as holy to God; God, your God, chose you out of all the people on Earth for himself as a cherished personal treasure. .. Know this: God your God , is God indeed, a God you can depend upon.” Deut. 7:6,9 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken

Ken Chester is one of my favorite writers to read. Today, he captures the reality of the Jews journey out of the desert. And we are just like them. Enjoy.
