Life in Jesus …

November 12, 2013

“God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he love so much. The Son got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating, … We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created.” Colossians 1:13-15 The Message

There is nothing easy about living a life where Christ is the center of your life. That means He is to be in control. His life .. His thoughts .. His view on your world .. and even His view on the world at large. There is nothing easy about letting Christ live his life through you. The temptation is to just make the best decisions possible .. good moral decisions .. fair decisions .. even decisions that might favor someone else before you. All of that seems good and reasonable on the outside. But this life you have in Christ is about trusting him to lead your life. He’ll begin to help you change .. ever so slightly at first .. and even give you the strength to walk away from sin’s misery. Christ is to be your life today .. not just your best intentions or the silent partner .. but the very shape of everything you do and the center of everyone in your life. The temptation is not to ignore Jesus .. just don’t place so much emphasis on Jesus being the One who is guiding your steps .. shaping your thoughts .. and loving others through you. He’s gone that extra length in your life: rescued you from “dead-end alleys”. He’s given you a present-tense image for living today: your old life was nailed to the cross “with Christ”. All the power that raised his life from the dead is now in you. How can God give that much power so extravagantly? Because it is about Christ being the center of your life today. And for whatever you are facing today: Jesus wants to be the Life you depend on .. trust in .. and hold onto as you step into this day. It only takes a moment …

“Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life — no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection.” Romans 5:6-7 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
