Like father … like Son

December 5, 2013

“While he was trying to figure a way out, he had a dream. God’s angel spoke in the dream: “Joseph, son of David, don’t hesitate to get married. Mary’s pregnancy is Spirit-conceived. God’s Holy Spirit has made her pregnant. She will bring a son to birth, and when she does, you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—‘God saves’—because he will save his people from their sins.” … Then Joseph woke up. He did exactly what God’s angel commanded in the dream.” Matthew 1:20-21,24 The Message

Joseph made a choice about a son. He chose to trust what God said. It couldn’t have been an easy choice. His whole life and reputation would be open to ridicule and accusations. What would they say about his wife? He obeyed. His choice was really simple: To trust God or trust himself. No one entertains the thought that Joseph’s choice was easy or “really simple”. Every faith has components that are unique to every man’s or woman’s life. Your life is just like Joseph’s life. He chose to obey. He trusted God’s words for his life. As a result .. his son became the Son named “God saves”. Joseph’s obedience is found in the layers and fabric of your faith. The Son also made a choice about his Father. He chose trust. He suffered in that choice. He suffered ridicule and every accusation imagined. We don’t know if he had a conversation about obedience with his father .. but he lived a conversation of obedience with His Father. And because Jesus, the son of an obedient father, and the Father’s Son lived a life of obedience .. your life has been saved for such obedience. The obedience offered your life is son-lived .. son-shaped .. and Son-saves. It is a choice found in Christ .. for your life today. It only takes a moment….

“Though he was God’s Son, he learned trusting-obedience by what he suffered, just as we do.” Hebrews 5:8 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
