All because you were stuck …

December 11, 2013

“When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive — right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross.” Colossians 2:13-14 The Message

We rarely like to admit that we were once “incapable of responding to God.” Deep down, there is a part of you that refuses to believe that you were entirely dead on the inside. After all, you work, raise children, and live as active a life as you can manage. How could you be stuck? Sin’s great lie is to convince you that there is something good that remains in you. The threshold of realizing just how dead you are is different in every man and woman. For some, they’ve woken up at the bottom. The only view possible is up. The only way out is up. The only problem is they are incapable of taking even the first step. And realizing “that” may be the greatest step they never have to make on their own. The world tries to make the cross sound too simple and culturally irrelevant. The world has advanced beyond the primitive images of one blood stained cross representing the hope of every man or woman. Who really believes that a 2000 year old cross is the answer for becoming unstuck? The one who has finally reached that place in their life and realizes for the first time or thousandth time that no amount of self-effort .. self-will .. or self-sacrifice can save them .. that’s who. And saving is what it is all about. The exterior may look different .. but you know in all humility that Christ is the one who has broken all the chains .. completely wiped clean the “slate” recording your “sin-dead life” .. and whispered “you’re forgiven” into the canyons of your heart. Only God can speak that deeply and reach that distance to pull you out of the death sentence hanging over your life. No two lives are the same .. but Jesus is exactly the same to every life that walks out free .. full of praise .. looking at life whole .. and just grateful to be alive in Christ. You don’t walk away from this gift. If you do .. you’ll just get stuck again .. and again .. and again. It only takes a moment …

“Jesus told them, “Unwrap him and let him loose.” John 11:44 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
