The Sword of Hope

December 12, 2013

“This child marks the failure and the recovery of many in Israel, A figure misunderstood and contradicted– the pain of a sword-thrust through you–But the rejection will force honesty, as God reveals who they really are.” Luke 2:34-35 The Message

Who would ever think that this “child” would be the hope of your life? His life is literally and spiritually the line of failure and the hope of recovery for the world. There is no single figure in history equal to his life. None. Many are suggested and compared against his life but all fail ultimately. Why…? Because every life breaks against the absolute truth of Jesus Christ: born-crucified-risen. He is a Judge of Hope for any life fallen .. flawed .. and fragile. He is a Judge of Separation to any life that refuses His help .. rejects His grace .. and retreats from His Abiding Presence. He was misunderstood because he didn’t act like God. He offered grace instead of guilt. He was contradicted because he didn’t demand perfection. He offered compassion instead of chains. His life is out in the open .. in public .. available to all. He bears this title: Judge of the living and the dead. He is dismissed easily but is found freely by the defeated and despised. Any life weighed down finds a friend in this Jesus. His life is a sword of truth. He cuts across all lies and pierces all darkness. Justice and mercy are the bladed sides of his life. If you need help .. there is Jesus. If you need love .. there is Jesus. If you need rest .. there is Jesus. If you need peace .. there is Jesus. If you need the darkness lifted .. there is Jesus. If you need more than you can find in words .. there is Jesus. His life marks the very way for your life. It only takes a moment …

“He commissioned us to announce this in public, to bear solemn witness that he is in fact the One whom God destined as Judge of the living and the dead.” Acts 10:42 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
