Ever … lasting

December 16, 2013

“So the ransomed of The Lord will return, And come with joyful shouting to Zion; And everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, And sorrow and sighing will flee away.” Isaiah 51:11 New American Standard

“Everlasting” .. is a word that defines your life. The finished work of Christ on the cross makes “everlasting” joy a reality. Your life is part of God’s ransomed .. God’s redeemed .. and God’s reconciled family. Jesus paid the ransom on your life. There was no way you could ever pay such a bill. He claimed you when there wasn’t anything about you worth redeeming. It cost him everything. Christ rescued your life from sin and a life chained to darkness. You’re part of the ransomed who return singing and shouting with indescribable joy. And the joy that God crowns you with is “everlasting”. But Jesus does something inside of us that is unimaginable: He opens your heart and mind to grasp and understand that you are loved with an “everlasting” love. It is an unfathomable gift. You don’t live in fear that it will be taken away or that it will run out. Without Jesus, this kind of love is unattainable. There’s nothing you can do to earn it. That’s why the ransomed are singing: they know what God has done in them and they are free to live out of the wide open spaces of God’s everlasting love in Christ. You probably don’t know anyone who has actually been ransomed before. The ransomed have no power .. no say .. and no way to freedom. Jesus changes all of that in your life. He crowns you with “everlasting” joy and you begin to live. It’s not like anyway you have ever lived before. And once you start living this way .. you don’t won’t to go back to the way it used to be. You’re part of the Ransomed of The Lord .. and He’s not letting go. The best thing you can do is open your heart and let Christ pour “everlasting” into all the dry .. neglected .. and life-weary places. It only takes a moment …

“The Lord appeared to him from afar, saying, “I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
