One of THOSE witnesses …?

December 30, 2013

“What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.” Acts 1:8 The Message

Jesus didn’t leave you to try to figure out the christian-life on your own. He reconciled you to God .. redeemed you so that you know how much your life is worth .. and has given you the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you in this “new-life” you have become in Christ. Your whole life has changed in Christ. That change happened all at once and happens over the course of your life. A witness is to be someone you can trust. That’s who you are now through Jesus. Your life is a living witness of God’s grace and his everyday shaping of your life into the image of His Son. The Christian-life is a life of power .. God’s power. It’s the kind of power that creates a love in you that you know in yourself you could never create or sustain. You find yourself loving others in a way that points to Jesus. Sometimes that same power is used “in” you for you to receive the love of Christ .. because you haven’t let yourself be loved that deeply .. because of guilt or shame .. or both. And the love that God works in you begins to work outwardly through you. The Holy Spirit’s role is to point to Jesus .. to correct you where needed .. to fill you with joy .. assure you when you doubt .. and sustain you as you begin to live a life of obedience. Obedience simply means you are not living according to your own rules but learning to love the life that Jesus is living in you. You’re a witness of Jesus Christ. That in itself will stand out in this divided .. dis-eased .. and disillusioned world. What makes you different is that you’re no longer chasing after all the things the world tells you that you need in order to feel worthy or find meaning. The more you walk with Christ .. the more you will find yourself looking less at the world and loving more for Jesus in the world. You can’t stay the way you used to be and be a “witness”. Because in Jesus … you aren’t the same any longer. It only takes a moment …

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3 New American Standard

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
