Living constantly on call…..

January 24, 2014

“That’s exactly what Jesus did. He didn’t make it easy for himself by avoiding people’s troubles, but waded right in and helped out. “I took on the troubles of the troubled,” is the way Scripture puts it. Even if it was written in Scripture long ago, you can be sure it’s written for us. God wants the combination of his steady, constant calling and warm, personal counsel in Scripture to come to characterize us, keeping us alert for whatever he will do next.” Romans 15:3-4 The Message

What would your day look like if you “waded right in” on other’s troubles. You would still have all the responsibilities of your day .. all the demands .. any and all interruptions and irritations .. but your primary calling would be to “wade in”. It’s what Jesus did. It’s what you told him you would do with your life when he pulled you out of that prison .. saved you from destroying yourself and maybe those you love .. and gave you a new life when you knew you didn’t deserve one. And on top of all that Jesus called you to follow him .. wherever He leads. He’s cleared the way for you to daily set your heart and mind on being alert to His ways. Sometimes that will mean dealing with stuff .. flat-spots .. and other broken pieces in your life. Sometimes it will mean laying aside your stuff and helping someone else in their troubles. It would be his energy. Remember: “Christ is the Christian life”. It’s His life in you that strengthens you to wade in and walk alongside. Your believing life is based on who Jesus is .. not on whether you believe in yourself. Your constant calling today is to be alert to Christ .. his life .. and His Spirit working in you .. and through you. You are His witness. His calling of you is sure. What will your day look like? It only takes a moment ….

“Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope! Romans 15:13 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
