Becoming God’s Favorite….

February 25, 2014

“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” Romans 8:26-28 The Message

One of the Holy Spirit gifts in your life is this gift of “prayer-shaping” the wordless parts of you into a prayer. It’s not just any prayer. It’s a prayer that God hears. It’s a prayer that “keeps you present before God”. It’s the prayer that shapes God’s good in you. When things are off-balance .. dry and distant .. or just-everyday-drudgery .. The Lord hears the prayer you can’t put into words. He hears your heart and spirit clothed in His Spirit. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be the One who comes “alongside” your life .. a “Helper” .. and a “Comforter”. Christ’s Spirit knows you better than you know yourself. He knows every corner of your life. He should because His death covered absolutely every corner .. and his resurrection-life now fills every corner. That covers the dry and distant .. off-balance .. and just-everyday-drudgery. A man named Cornelius prayed and did good things .. but he didn’t know Jesus. He didn’t have the Holy Spirit living in his life .. filling his life .. and shaping his life. But God heard his words and his heart and sent Peter as a witness of grace and a friend of forgiveness. That’s what you become in Christ: a witness of grace and friend of forgiveness. The same Holy Spirit then is the same Holy Spirit now: “right alongside shaping every detail of your life of love into something good”. That’s what happens when your God’s favorite. And He has a lot of them scattered all around. It only takes a moment …

“Peter fairly exploded with his good news: “It’s God’s own truth, nothing could be plainer: God plays no favorites! It makes no difference who you are or where you’re from—if you want God and are ready to do as he says, the door is open. The Message he sent to the children of Israel—that through Jesus Christ everything is being put together again—well, he’s doing it everywhere, among everyone.” Acts 10:34-36

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
