A Wide Way a-Cross

“…Christ made a single sacrifice for sins, and that was it!” Hebrews 10:12 The Message

It’s always more complicated than just a sentence or a theological twist. Some believe that Jesus died on that cross as a sacrifice for sins that clears the way for you to freely accept his death for your sins .. out of your free will .. unforced … uncoerced .. and unlimited in it scope.. Some believe that Jesus died on the cross for just those who believe in his death for their sins .. irresistibly drawn .. a once for all time death that covers their lives .. unbending in their view of the scope of Christ’s death. These two sets of lives cross paths everyday in all corners of work .. commerce .. and activities. Some of these two Cross-held views rarely cross paths. Their faith and view of Christ’s life .. work .. death compels them to separate paths of obedience. Christ died for your sins. That fact should fill your heart and mind for today. That fact should free your life for today. That fact should form your reach into the world you live in today. If it is for everyone .. then you should live with the widest grace possible. If it is for those “only who believe” the hour reach should be as wide as possible as well. You cheapen the cross and Christ’s atoning sacrifice when it is for everyone but overlook that surrender of every life that must believe. If it is for only those who are elected .. you color grace as impersonal and make faith seem severe and grace-less. The Cross is the loudest message of the life changing grace of Jesus Christ. But are you living the life that Christ’s cross once and for all decided for your life? It only takes a moment …

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
