Love and dirty feet ..

May 7, 2014

“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you.” John 14:15 The Message

His final words were intense. They were words of sharp clarity and great comfort. Our imaginations cannot fathom the image of someone with such power washing pairs of dusty feet and drying them with a towel wrapped at his waist. We all think it should have been the other way around .. but that memory carried them for the rest of their lives. They were being called to love by loving the unloving .. unacceptable .. and unnoticed parts of men’s and women’s lives. It wasn’t the outer things where life would change .. but the inner places of a broken and damaged heart .. and the never-at-rest and ever anxious mind where the love of Christ makes his home. That’s where his love met you. Jesus connects his love to the Father. If you are loving him, you will know the Father’s love as well. For many, God as their Father is more of an idea than an abiding reality in their life. Jesus lived that Father-Son relationship and keeps on living it in you. You’ll never be alone again. The Friend, the Holy Spirit, will always be with you. We have to learn that over and over because there are so many distractions trying to pull our attention away from Jesus. The very design of his love perfectly fits the design of your life: to know the Father’s love by living out of the Son’s love. The cross shows how over-qualified Jesus was to be a foot-washer. Or .. it may be the greatest secret He could have given you. He showed you what true love looks like for everyday living. And it begins by loving Him and living out His words. It only takes a moment …

“The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that’s who loves me. And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and make myself plain to him.” John 14:21 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
