Jesus ..then and now

“The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood. ” John 1:14 The Message

You never have to wonder about Jesus and how much he knows about your life. He moved into a neighborhood with every kind .. type .. shape .. and circumstances of life. He attended a wedding .. stopped on the road to touch a leper .. offered life to an outcast woman by a well .. asked a corrupt tax official to join his disciples .. used some bread and fish to feed thousands and teach his followers about the Father’s care .. healed a paralyzed man .. gave another sight .. restored sanity to a demon-tormented man .. let himself be interrupted to heal and make a suffering woman whole .. washed his betrayer’s feet .. restored a woman caught in sexual sin .. and forgave one of his closest disciples who denied knowing him. Jesus steps right into the middle of every broken layer of life. Disease doesn’t turn him away. Despair draws him. Fear-Shame-and Guilt do not surprise him or cause him to turn away. He could have avoided suffering but he chose to suffer for everyone’s sin .. even yours. Jesus became just like you. He faced every problem and pressure you face. He served the unnoticed and unwanted. He made time for the hurting and hopeless. He armed his disciples with bread .. wine .. and love. Every word he spoke two thousand years ago is needed today. His death and resurrection are still unpopular and mocked .. but still change lives which are lost and have given up. Your true identity .. worth .. and purpose are found in Him. And just like then .. It only takes a moment …

“Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger in the dirt. They kept at him, badgering him. He straightened up and said, ” the sinless one among you, go first: Throw the stone.” Bending down again, he wrote some more in the dirt.” John 8:6-8 the Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
