Running loose and running wild …

“Since they didn’t bother to acknowledge God, God quit bothering them and let them run loose.” Romans 1:28 The Message

We all want a nice story where God intervenes and makes everything work out. We want Him to soften the edges .. correct the mistakes .. rework the injustices and make a good ending for everybody .. well .. almost everybody. But He doesn’t. He doesn’t wink at our mistakes or overlook our “just growing up” rebellions and self-centered living. Our self-made gods actually become tyrants with no mercy and no hope. The God who enters our real worlds is confronted with every form of addiction and broken promises. Sex is turned into medication .. distraction .. and ultimately destruction. Walls are erected between hurting and hate-filled hearts of all shapes .. sizes .. and shades. And rather than walk away or remain at a distance .. Jesus wanders right onto the center of everything. He offers a hand up and a “radical” heart change and even more “radical” life-change. It doesn’t happen away from you .. but always and only in you. When this real change happens in your life with Jesus .. you don’t find yourself looking down at anyone. In fact the scariest most radical life-change on earth happens with you: walls come down .. broken lives are no longer kept at a distance .. other’s lives and their pain, confusion, and battles become the very soil where you find yourself reaching out in the name of Jesus. You can’t believe it at first because it was only yesterday that Jesus offered to exchange all the self-driven mess of your life with the life-changing core of His life. A long distance .. antiquated .. out-of-touch cross suddenly became the most intimate friendship you’ve ever experienced. And now you’ve become dangerous in this hate-filled .. life-destroying .. choice-addiction world. And all because this God has always been kind. You just couldn’t see it before. And if you’ve drifted away … it only takes a moment …

“Better think this one through from the beginning. God is kind, but he’s not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change.” Romans 2:4 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
