How will you treat God today…?

June 30, 2014

“Open your eyes and there it is! By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can’t see: eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. So nobody has a good excuse. What happened was this: People knew God perfectly well, but when they didn’t treat him like God, refusing to worship him, they trivialized themselves into silliness and confusion so that there was neither sense nor direction left in their lives.” Romans 1:20-22 The Message

There are seemingly endless “gods” promising anything to keep your attention. There are seductive “gods” that promise you a self that ends up directionless and desperate for acceptance. You cannot separate God from the fingerprints of a barn-born son born to Joseph and Mary. His footprints wandered the desert and walked among the desperate .. lonely .. confused .. starving .. broken .. and lost. The people of promise were living under fear that God had given up or was angry that they weren’t being good enough. Men and women still live with this image of God today. They live that way despite the created evidence before their eyes. The beauty of everything God has ever created is only superseded by the life of Jesus of Nazareth. His life silences the noises of self seductions and gives any man or woman direction that culminates into true praise. One of the greatest gifts that God created is the gift .. fruit .. and act of praise. We often give thanks over things or as a result. But God has revealed Himself throughout creation and praise is our way of living in faith or chasing life through fear. Jesus asks you to follow him .. trust him .. and live for him. Everything he did or said revealed his Father’s care .. his Father’s promise .. and his Father’s presence. And just as the Father was with his Son .. so now this Son is with those who live through His life. This Son will not compete against all the created veneers of today’s “gods”. He doesn’t have to. And if you follow Him, you will learn to let go of trivial “gods”. It only takes a moment …

“Spread for me a banquet of praise, serve High God a feast of kept promises, And call for help when you’re in trouble- I’ll help you, and you’ll honor me.” Psalm 50:14-15 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
