When God traded for you …

July 1, 2014

“So God said, in effect, “If that’s what you want, that’s what you get.” It wasn’t long before they were living in a pigpen, smeared with filth, filthy inside and out. And all this because they traded the true God for a fake god, and worshiped the god they made instead of the God who made them—the God we bless, the God who blesses us. Oh, yes!” Romans 1:24-25 The Message

We’ve always traded for the wrong things. We substituted trust with “a little more self-effort” .. just in case. We substituted faith with good intentions .. and said we tried our best. When all else fails .. when we’ve exhausted our resources .. and when we’ve run out of gas .. we beg God to help .. and promise to do better tomorrow. We’ve done all that and more. God has not hidden from us the history of His family. It’s our family. It’s us. it’s you. No one imagines being this kind of person. If you’ve lived in the filth of sin .. you are acutely aware of how fake you tried to make God. You blamed Him .. and made Him out to be anything that would let you control your life. And God…? He became everything you could never imagine. He was “looked down upon .. passed over .. and he knew pain firsthand”. Who would ever trade for this kind of God? Even if you wanted to .. you never possessed the power or ability to trade. So He made the for you! He knows what you’ve done in your life. He knows when you’ve made Him less than He truly is. And still, Jesus let His life be disfigured to trade for you. He wanted everything that was wrong with you. He traded for the worst about us .. freely .. in pure unleashed love .. and met your sin with His wrath. Wrath .. sin .. and “all the wrong things with us” .. have been nailed to the God who blesses .. who yearns to bless you today . And in Christ … it only takes a moment …

“There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. One look at him and people turned away. We looked down on him, thought he was scum. But the fact is, it was our pains he carried— our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.” Isaiah 53:2-4 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
