Reaching beyond the end-of-my-rope…

August 11, 2014

“I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different.” Romans 7:24-25 The Message

Stuck inside the Bible is one man’s admission of being powerless. He’s tried every way possible to stop .. defeat .. and conquer the power of sin. He finally admits he needs help. He can’t do this .. live this godly life .. and live with himself. He is you. And the only way any of us ever confront the face of sin is in the reality of Jesus Christ. Everyday presents seeming contradictions and confusing scenarios in the way of faith. Your heart and your mind can be pulled in different directions .. but when you know that Jesus has stepped into every situation of your life .. and He has defeated the tyrannies that seek to torment and condemn you .. you will do the most powerful act of your life and “thank God”. It will be unlike just being generally thankful. You will be thanking The Lord from the deepest parts of your life .. thanking The Lord with everything in you .. and thanking The Lord with uncompromising praise and worship. It doesn’t matter where you are .. what time it is .. or who you are with. You know that Christ has defeated condemnation and lingering clouds of disappointment and rejection. The Spirit of Christ has moved in and you aren’t facing today alone .. in your own strength. Have you faced that moment? Have you quit trying to fight your own battles and started trusting Christ to be your strength? No condemnation .. in Christ! It only takes a moment …

“With the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
