The Cross … and you (2)

November 18, 2014

“Who believes what we’ve heard and seen? Who would have thought God’s saving power would look like this? …. The plan was that he give himself as an offering for sin so that he’d see life come from it — life, life, and more life. And God’s plan will deeply prosper through him.” Isaiah 53:1,-10 The Message

This Cross gets in the way of everything .. and everyone. You could never imagine God’s plan looking like this. Who would ever imagine God’s saving power looking so un-savable? Despised .. Rejected .. Knew pain firsthand .. Forsaken .. Tortured .. and Silent? “It’s what God had in mind all along”. We prefer to look back at that Cross because it gets in the way of everything in front of us. But if this Cross is present tense about life and people, then my property becomes His property, my wants, needs, desires, and motivations becomes His as well. The Cross isn’t about looking back and dragging today’s life into the past. It’s about Today .. this Cross .. God’s Plan .. Jesus .. and your life very much alive. Everything is brought into God’s perspective on this Cross. Everything about your life and everyone you welcome into this day become part of this Cross’s story. Without it, you are left to interpret lives and circumstances through your own lens. But .. you say .. “What about ……….? If you don’t decide, then the next thing you know … this will happen.” If your day begins with this Cross .. your mind will be at rest .. even if things are unsettled around you and sometimes within you. This Cross anchors you to God’s reality for today. This Cross isn’t just a quick glance at a 2000 year old symbol. It takes your day and places it in the light of God’s Plan. Without it, it’s your plan. God’s Plan is always ..”until Christ is formed in you”. Christ is risen … He won’t let go….

“Welcome with open arms. Fellow believers who don’t see things the way you do. … Do you have any business crossing people off the guest list or interfering with God’s welcome? If there are corrections to be made or manners to be learned, God can handle that without your help.” Romans 14:1,4 The Message

Ken Chester: The Grip is sent M-F to Cross-Gripped lives following Jesus .. God’s Plan. ( I am at Mepkin Abbey this week for retreat, so Grip may be delayed with spotty service…Shalom!)

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
