Finding freedom …

December 22, 2015

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17 NLT

There is an image of God that scares most people. It is God delighting over your life. It is God declaring that if you live in His truth you will live in freedom. He doesn’t delight over you or sing over your life because you’ve been good or because you try your best or even because you try everyday to have good intentions. His delight over your life is because of who He is. The Lord is a mighty savior .. a victorious savior .. and a triumphant savior. Those aren’t just words to Him. The world you live in robs, steals, and destroys lives everyday. He sees the deceitfulness of sin and how easily you can become entangled and stuck with no real hope or relief. Most people just try to live life by minimizing the effects of sin. They’re truly sorry but deep inside they know they are powerless over it’s influence. So God comes with His promise. He’s come to rescue you .. to pick you up from the darkest places .. to clean up the corners of your heart and clean up your mind and conscience. He comes with life .. delivering life .. saving life .. joyful life .. fear calming life .. and even more .. freedom. Jesus ties that freedom directly into trusting Him .. believing in Him .. and living by His words. It’s not easy. Everyday you are assaulted against the knowledge of God being a mighty savior and a savior powerful enough to give you freedom amidst sometimes paralyzing circumstances. His freedom breaks chains of anger .. concrete hardened bitterness .. crusted over hope .. and silent screams of loneliness. Jesus was born into the same world you live in today. His life still dwells in your world. His Spirit still makes His home in every heart that invites Him in. Simple .. easy .. everything changes overnight? Hardly. For some it get even more difficult. Our enemy is real. But the truth of Jesus breaks every lie of the father of lies. You weren’t made to walk alone. It only takes a moment …

“You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth with set you free.” John 8:31-32 NLT

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
