“The Message that points to Christ on the Cross seems like sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but for those on the way to salvation it make perfect sense.” 1 Cor. 1:18 The Message
So you’re going to change the world? You’re going to send a message, sign, a symbol, a life so powerful that a human heart can literally be changed on the inside. You have all the resources in the world and the power to create anything you need to make the message work. So what do you do? Well, God chose childbirth in a not yet fully married couple. He then went silent for 30 years and shows up at a wedding. Water to wine .. a leper gets physically touched and healed .. some unschooled fishermen are enrolled in His first school of discipleship. Except the name of His school was called: Follow Me! The curriculum was simple: walk along the roads with Jesus, help Him out when crowds gathered, be witnesses to miraculous healings, serve 5000 people with a few loaves and fishes, and continually engage in a conversation about what God’s kingdom was all about. Their big moment came after Jesus washed their feet at a dinner and told them that they would be the Message of His life .. His love .. and His saving power. They ran off before He was crucified .. hid in a house until He fully-alive appeared in their presence. He ate some fish to prove He was really real. How could God get it so wrong? It would have been so much easier to just make something that would change us .. give us a fresh set of rules .. or just start over. He did. He started with a Cross and let that Message stand against all accusers .. mockers .. abusers .. intellectuals .. mentally ill .. addicted .. lonely .. hopeless .. and unforgiven and seeming unforgivable lives. Getting it wrong it would appear was the only Way to get us to see , believe, and trust that God was extravagantly gracious in being right all along. You are the Message about a Cross that is about Jesus. Do you think God thinks that you are the wrong man or woman for the job? It only takes a moment ..
“If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us.” 2 Cor. 4:7 The Message
