Can He see that deep …?

January 5, 2016

“When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?” John 5:6 NASB

How will you answer this question? Jesus isn’t trying to make you feel guilty or put you on the spot. Over and over He speaks into your heart .. at just that place in you where you need a word of grace. He knows that about us … exactly that place .. that area .. that attitude or mindset that will stay in a paralyzed condition. On the outside, no one may suspect anything wrong. As one Jesus-follower once wrote: “the real battle in our lives is in the secret places of the will before God.” Jesus found him by a pool of water. He had lived that way for 38 years! How many prayers had gone up? How many times had he bargained with God? How many friends had come and gone? Would God have mercy on his life? He was all out of questions. He didn’t even know how to ask to be made whole. All he knew was he didn’t have any strength or any help. He was you at one point in your life. He may be you now at this point in your life. Jesus is the Only One who can bring you over to God’s side with your life “put together”. 38 years was but a moment. Yours may be longer. Or .. it may be briefer in time but much more intense in distress .. pain .. anger .. hopelessness .. and fear. We live in a God-moment of time where we “know” that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ. Your feelings may cry out against that truth .. but there is nothing that can stand in the light of the Cross .. no pain .. no suffering .. no distress .. no bitterness .. no fear .. no shame .. no anger or rejection. Jesus isn’t looking for the perfect answer … He does most of His best work with flawed faith. It only takes a moment …

“But now, by giving himself completely at the Cross, actually dying for you, Christ brought you over to God’s side and put your lives together, whole and holy in his presence>’ Colossians 1:22 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
