“You yourselves are a case study of what he does. At one time you all had your backs turned to God, thinking rebellious thoughts of him, giving him trouble every chance you got. But now, by giving himself completely at the Cross, actually dying for you. Christ brought you over to God’s side and put your lives together, whole and holy in his presence.” Colossians 1:21-22 The Message
What a case of two worlds: One world is you bent on maintaining your God-independence and actually thinking life would work out. The other world is Jesus asking/telling his Father to make you God-fit for a life changing mission. In order to make both worlds work, Jesus gives up his life .. on your behalf .. and for his Father-sent mission. It would be satisfying to look back and try to claim some credit for helping Jesus. You could point to moments where you made a difference. But the real story is how much trouble your life was before Christ brought your life over to God’s side. Not only does the cross cover your life .. but Jesus prays that your once independent and God-stubborned ways would be saturated in God Words ..truth-Words .. and life changing Words. And whatever His Words do inside of you, Jesus has already done for you. You were once bent to your own ways but now Jesus has turned your life into a God-sized, Father-shaped, and Son-sent mission. That’s what your day holds. There isn’t one detail about today that isn’t part of His plan in your life. Jesus didn’t pray about your plan. He prayed about His plan being truth consecrated in you and through you. His Words about you are true and the truth about your life is to be made whole and holy in Him. It only takes a moment….
“Make them holy – consecrated – with the truth; Your word is consecrating truth. In the same way that you gave me a mission in the world, I give them a mission in the world. I’m consecrating myself for their sakes, So they’ll be truth-consecrated in their mission.” John 17:17-19 The Message
