What’s the big deal..?

January 15, 2016

“Our firm decision is to work from this focused center: One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own.” 2 Cor. 5:14-15 The Message

Why is there so much emphasis on Christ’s death .. on a cross .. for the whole breadth of sin? Because it takes us, you and me, a long time to realize .. believe .. and live every day in his resurrection life. It takes a long time to really believe we, you and me, were really that miserable in sin .. every sin .. any sin .. under sin’s “beck and call”. Your old life would reason .. explain .. and even excuse the small sins. That includes anything in your life where you call the shots rather than trust in Christ’s risen life in you. When was the last time someone asked you where you were struggling in your life    and you answered honestly .. asking for prayer .. accepting Christ’s decisive answer on a cross? Why is it a big deal? Because the world tries desperately everyday to convince us, you and me, that it was and is an out-of-date deal. It’s a big deal because Jesus offers you a better life than you could ever achieve on your own … if you had all the resources at your fingertips. It’s a big deal because the truth about your life was nailed to a cross .. decisively. It’s a big deal because  you have a message about a “life” that is only found in Christ. And that makes your life a big deal. The pressures facing you today are real. The temptations facing you today are real. The lies about your old life not being that bad are real. And the only clear picture of any real hope of a real life free from sin’s miserable, demanding, and subtle lies is Christ. He is a big deal today .. in your life .. and through your life. It only takes a moment …

“Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life– no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection.” Romans 6:6-7 The Message

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
