CrossRoads: Jesus had a choice.. He chose you

February 25, 2016

“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb. 12:2 ESV

We have a lot of choices everyday for what-where-who  we will look for strength .. hope .. and confidence. Jesus isn’t going to try to compete against anything or anyone in your focus. The cross .. specifically His cross .. stands solitary against everything confronting your life. It doesn’t shout above the noise. It doesn’t offer a quick fix or fantasy distraction. It stands silently in full display of everything connected to your life. The cross is where Jesus founded and perfected your faith. His life found you where you wandered off and still finds you when you wander off .. even today. He doesn’t condemn you. Jesus simply and completely became every source of condemnation you’ve ever heard or piled  upon yourself. He said his life was the Way .. and yet He found you trying your own way .. doing your own thing. Time doesn’t change His cross. His cross changes time in  you. You’re no longer bound and directed by self-defeating and self-determining choices. That was all piled on Jesus on your behalf. You can face the most mundane routine .. overwhelming circumstances .. or uncertainties knowing that Christ is with you. His choice was you and there was only one way to make that choice perfect for your life going forward. His cross was His choice. No matter what you are facing today .. this cross stands in the way before you. It’s there when you look back as well. Jesus endured that cross because anything less offered no real hope .. no real rest .. and no real strength to endure a broken world.  It only takes a moment …

“He took the punishment, that made us whole. Through his bruises we get healed. We’re like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost. We’ve done our own thing, gone our own way. And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong on him, on him.” Isaiah 53:5-6 MSG

About Ken Chester

I love seeing Christ become alive and real in someone's life. It is amazing what happens when Jesus moves in and starts to renovate a life. When I'm not riding my road bike, I am usually walking our corgi named Trinity (she came that way) and corgi-lab named Lowrider. Carolyn and I are transforming our backyard. And a book is on the way. ...Stay tuned ... Ken
